SPBF and PBF?

Post by eccles »

Snapped today at Priddy Mineries, Somerset, were these two fritillaries. They appear to be quite different, so is one PBF? Priddy is known for SPBF but not PBF so if we have the latter it could be an important find.
Help appreciated. :)

Top is female SPBF and I'm guessing the bottom is the male...but it seems every time I take a stab at ID I put my size 10 in it.

Not this time! I think you're spot-on.

I agree, sex and species!

It would make it more fun, Eccles, if you didn't take such good pictures.

Nice of you to say so, Guy, and thanks all for the comments. It would have been nice to have a positive on PBF, but it's not known there so it was a bit of a long shot.
