Silver Studded Blue aberrations

Post by Rivoldini »

Hello friends, I saw these two SSBs at Prees Heath on Wednesday. I have had a go at identifying them and would appreciate confirmation or the correct id please,

ab caeruleo-cuneata and ab caerulescens
Thank you
Ron

I wouldn't know what to call them, Ron, but they are both unusual and beautiful female abs. Nice and fresh too - the SSB round my way have all but finished.

Isolated populations of SS Blue have evolved into visually quite distinct races, eg on Great Orme and the extinct race from the Lake District.

I wonder: Is the isolated Prees Heath population following the same trend towards females with much more extensive blue?
