Dordogne June 2017

Post by cecropia117 »

Spent the last 2 weeks of June in the far north of the Dordogne.

Saw lots of butterflies, but thought I'd share one I never thought I would see!

I presume that's an exceptionally blue ceronus.

Do share some of the others too!

Guy

EDIT: Or coelestis ... Or do you know some other name for this aberration? She's a beautiful insect.

She was an absolute beauty. When I first saw her, I didn't know what she was. I couldn't get a shot of the underside but she was a typically marked female Adonis. She certainly set the pulse racing!

The Gite we stayed at was surrounded by a patchwork of woodland and flower meadows, which contained a huge colony of Large Blues. In a twenty minute walk you could count 50+ easily. They were vary variable too.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I feel a bit guilty about it really though because I went with a friend and fellow enthusiast, who missed it.

I have attached the only other half decent shot I managed to get, before it was gone.
