Norfolk

Post by nick patel »

Hi,

Will be going to Norfolk around the late twenties of May. Does anything think anyone Swallowtails might be out at this time.

Thanks.

I think it might be a week or two too early. But, as I always say to those that ask me how I get to see so many species - it's because I actually make the effort :) Good luck.

Cheers,

Given the heatwave this week, don't you think that things will start to happen around that time? Last year (no guide, I know!) around that time was OK - even with the poor weather in May...I know because I bottled-it and missed a good day of sightings, as I later learned....

If you consider 2007 to be a freak year (I do!), then I'm going by sightings from 2006 and earlier. They'll probably be just emerging late May - but who knows?!

Thanks for all the great replies.

I understand that the last week of May isn't the peak time for Swallowtails, but might there be a few out in the odd place here and there, e.g. some of the places you've provided.

Cheers,

Nick.

Hi Nick,

Here is a message that I picked up from my local wildlife group.

Two Swallowtails were reported on the Norfolk-wildlife Yahoo group, at Barton Turf on Saturday 10th May.
This is early (usual first date around the 15th).

I'm going for a long weekend on June 13th and I hope to see them too.
Good luck.

Phew!
I'm planning the Bank-holiday weekend for a visit to Norfolk - thanks to everyone for the info - don't want to miss them this year!
(Thanks to JackHarr also who pointed out that in the last few years Swallowtails have been emerging a couple of weeks earlier than when he was a lad! :D )

Strumpshaw today - several Swallowtails despite the strong breeze. First sighted on 13th May this year.
