#2 is a Brown Silver-line - Petrophora chlorosata...I'll get back to you on #1 after I've consulted me book

#1 is a Treble-bar - Aplocera plagiata (had to check the book it might have been a Lesser Treble-bar.

Many thanks Martin, what book are you referring to? I would like a good moth book, I saw a one at the ukbutterflies photography day, it was Moths of the British Isles by Bernard Skinner, I don't think it's in print any more as it's a heck of a price now. I just found one on amazon for £117.00

I use a Collins book...Complete British Insects by Micheal Chinery. I bought it on Amazon about a year ago for £16:99.

"The Field Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland" by P. Waring is a good book too. About £25-£30 for paperback version. I bought mine from Amazon.

There are actually 2 versions of the Waring book. The detailed guide is here:

There's also a concise guide - which has less detail, but is superb for ID purposes - especially in the field.

I have both the Skinner and Waring books.
In my opinion, the illustrations by Richard Lewington in the Waring book are fabulous.
Skinner shows set specimens, Waring shows them as you would find them in life - much more useable.
Lisa - I shall have both with me this weekend, if I travel down, weather permitting.
