Slovenia Blue

Post by David Tipping »

This butterfly was photographed in Slovenia in June last year. Unfortunately I didn't manage an underwing shot. The nearest match I have managed to find is Damon Blue, but given that this species is not normally on the wing until mid-July, the likelihood is a different species. Might it be nothing more exciting than a female common blue? Would anybody like to hazard a guess?

I don't normally comment on European ID's ( preferring to guess in the comfort of my own sofa and then find out how far off I am when the experts comment  ) but I'm tempted to have a stab here and say it has a Plebejus look about it...

I agree with Buggy. This looks very good for silver-studded blue.
