Re: Any Pearl Bordered Fritillary Yet?
Nice pics Paul, but aren't these / isn't this a Small pearl.
The grey "dots" at the top on both sides look good for one, and the side views seems right.
Plus a few might be on the wing at the moment, and they are meant to be at Warton.
I'm open for being corrected.
Cheers.

Not always easy to tell, if they're flying together. I find PBs a more orangey colour than the darker SPBs, but the uns. are quite different... I have a better uns. shot from yesterday, along with one of last year's SPBF....

last year's
What do you think?

Pete's guide should clear this up - PBF or SPBF
http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species. ... Fritillary
I would say that Paul Kipling's photos on 14 May are, as Paul said at the time, PBFs not Small.
(ie, from the spacing of markings on upper forewings and the "floating" triangles)

I understand now how it is a PBF (after looking at the link), but if you look at the pictures i have attached (the ident. pieces of the link, and one of Paul's pics) you can see how much a PBF can look like a S PBF.
Cheers.
