North Spain ID help

Post by Wolfson »

Please can any of the experts help me identify the following that I saw in Spain (Basque/LaRioja border), in mid August. The area was hilly at about 500 m, open rocky, wooded scrub.
I suspect that 1 might be Silver-spotted skipper, could 2 be Oberthur's> For 3 & 4 maybe Chalkhill. The apparent lack of a wing fringe in 5 has me stumped. Unfortunately, the more photographs I look at the less sure I become.

#2 is Red Underwing (or some related species, not sure if such occurs in Spain), but it's not a Pyrgus grizzled skipper. #5 is just worn and has lost it's margins, #3-5 are all Chalk-hill or some local related species (I'm fairly sure there are some such species in Spain). #1 is Silver-spotted.
