Small orange urban butterfly

Post by ibisbill »

Today I saw a small orangeish butterfly flying quite strongly in an urban street in London N1, few flowers close by, weather dry but overcast. It didn’t land, so I can’t describe it in any detail but it was quite a lot smaller than a gatekeeper (maybe half/two-thirds of the size). I’m quite new to butterfly watching, realise this description is a bit vague but welcome any suggestions. Thank you

If it's not a Gatekeeper (which can be very small when the result of an underfed larva), then it could be a Small Copper.

Cheers,
