Week 7

So continues sequence of posts giving one and all the opportunity to showcase their favourite shots of 2015!

Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As like last year details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.

Wurzel's Wiltshire Hill (where the Marsh Fritillaries live) was the venue for my favourite Grizzled Skipper photo (28th May). There were good numbers here at what is an amazing all-round butterfly location.

2015 was the first time I encountered this species. They don't seem to exist right on the South coast of France. I had to move a little inland and upland.
Being in the South of France, this is probably Pyrgus malvoides :

Underside shots are already on the to-do list for 2016.

Along with the Small Copper,this is my favourite butterfly,and this is my favourite shot of 2015,i was quite lucky this season,and found several
Aberrations, including this Taras ,I was also pleased to find Grizzlies at Dungeness, I,ve always struggled to find them there ,although there is apparently a good population.The Taras was found a bit closer to home. Regards Allan.W,

I saw Grizzled Skippers at 3 separate sites in Warwickshire this year, Bishops Hill, Harbury Spoilbank, and Ryton Wood Meadows so here are my favourites...one from each site.

Saw plenty of Southern Grizzled Skippers in France this year (malvoides) but only one UK resident, which was this one captured at Ewyas Harold Common, Herefordshire, on the early May Bank Holiday:

I spotted this beautiful fresh specimen at Hailey Wood, Cirencester, on a day when my main quarry was Pearl-bordered Fritillary. A delight to see this too!

Grizzled Skipper

This was taken at Laverstock Down during the May break. K was having tuition although I don’t know how focused she was as later we were having her B’Day party. While she was stuck inside I was off up the Down and enjoying the late spring species. This site turned into a veritable boon and produced many of my firsts for the year. This shot however wasn’t my ‘first or 2015’ but it is my favourite because I love the colours and the on it. Also because of the way that it’s perched it appears to be hovering in mid-air which I love.
