What Is This Larva?

Post by Paul Harfield »

I was just about to post this when I read Paulines last diary entry. She has a photo of an identical larva and tentatively identifies it as a Bright Line Brown Eye moth larva. Perhaps somebody could confirm this :?: When I found it a couple of weeks ago I thought it was a Small White larva, now it is bigger I can see it is not. It is always on a Garlic Mustard leaf in this pot though it seems to be eating Forget-me-not which I have growing alongside. There are also two 1st instar Small White larvae on the same Garlic Mustard plant.

The ID looks sound to me, judging by UKleps.org. It overwinters as a pupa, so your final instar larva suits. Wide range of food plants and sometimes a pest of tomato plants, as Pauline has found!
