Sightings - South Of France Part 4

Post by kevling »

What follows are the remaining photos from the Parc Du Mercantour.

We walked around the lake close to Relais des Merveilles where we enjoyed a large number of Lycaenidae puddling (of which I do have a number of requests for ID confirmation if anyone can kindly help). Most numerous were Scarce Coppers and having never seen this species before, it was a delight to see so many.

First encounter by the lake was this Fritillary, which I believe is daphne.
Sorry about the quality of the 2nd shot.

Then a Pyrgus, which I'm hoping is foulquieri

One of the last butterflies seen before departure was my target species of the day, Apollo. Poor image as it never settled for more than a couple of seconds, but a nice record shot nonetheless.

Now with my lycaenidae requests

My final installment will take me to the Bay of Cannes

Your blue sharing the photo with the Long-tailed Blue is, I think, a male Adonis; the chequering of the wing fringe and the cell spot on the underside forewing suggest this.

Thanks Matsukaze,

I guessed I must have encountered Adonis at some point. I do have difficulty with Blues, so appreciate the help.
