Common Blues in Kessingland

Post by P.J.Underwood »

In a year that many are talking about the demise of the Common Blue,it was rather enlightening to come across a hotspot at Kessingland beach. The abundant foodplants appeared to be Sea pea,and many small vetches. In a short walk of about one hour we saw over 50 males and about a dozen females. They were mainly centered in three areas of green vegetation rather than the more arid areas. As this Suffolk town is almost on the most easterly point of England perhaps they are being squeezed out eastwards and almost into the sea. Many were seen about 10yds from the sea.
