It Sounded Like a Yellowhammer ?

this bird was at Totternhoe a few days ago. its song was similar to a Yellowhammer, but sufficiently different to make me wonder....

i took a risk with the weather this morning and went to Totternhoe Quarry. fortunately the rain held off & there was an hour or so of enough sunshine to persuade the Dukes to pop out :) the first butterfly i saw was a female Orange Tip. a Dingy Skipper appeared as well. 52883855916_22d913c1d6_c....

i went to Grafham Water this morning. a few Speckled Woods, a Comma, a tired Common Blue, and, a Large White were the only butterflies around.

i did see this interesting wading bird:

Thanks. What does the term "instar" mean? Caterpillars go through typically 5 stages of growth. Each stage is called an "instar." As a caterpillar grows, it "molts" 5 times before it becomes a chrysalis. Each time it molts the caterpillar progresses to the next instar ...
