Hi Ernie
Try Selsley Common for DoB - reportedly very good numbers there at the moment.
Kind Regards

Hi Ernie - I’ll miss bumping into you at Alice Holt during Emperor season and our strolls down the rides, but you are moving to a great location. My wife is from Nailsworth right on the edge of Minchinhampton common so I know the area pretty well. As others have said Large Blues at a few locations, ...

Re: Purple Emperor - Favourite Photo of 2022
Probably my favourite emperor photo was actually of a pupa. I spent several evenings in June wandering around the woods with a uv light looking for these and using Flossie, my spaniel, as cover for a weird bloke being in the forest at ungodly hours with a strange blue light! In all I managed to find...

Re: Brown Hairstreak – Favourite Photo 2022
Until recently Brown Hairstreak has had a pretty restricted distribution in Hampshire, confined to two small areas in the extreme West and East of the county. In the past three or four years this species seems to have broken out of its eastern stronghold around Noar Hill with a number of sightings a...

Hi Pauline,
I think the little reserve you are referring to is Brook Meadow - well looked after and based around the River Ems a little chalk stream. See https://www.brookmeadow.org.uk/

Re: Heartening news...
I for one would like to thank David for giving such a comprehensive reply and for the efforts of the Large Blue Butterfly Conservation committee in getting this butterfly established back in the UK. It is my understanding that it was mostly human influences that tipped the Large Blue over the precip...

Re: Pauline
Hi Pauline Those are indeed Robber Flies. I am pretty sure the first two are Hornet Robber Flies and the pair are Kite Tailed Robber Flies from what I can see but happy to be corrected! They seem to be having a good year as I have seen quite a few too including one in the garden waiting on a buddlei...
Re: June 2022
I have bumped into a number of UKB’ers on my travels and especially in Emperor season and they will also have encountered Flossie the ‘Emperor dog’ She is my constant companion at this time of the year and can’t wait to get into the woods to see what we can find. She is very aware of the protocols n...
