I will be visiting Stonehenge with my family towards the end of May and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good butterfly sites nearby?

Re: March 2012
I had my first sighting of the year on feb 24th but have seen nothing since. I'm getting a bit agitated
I do live a bit further North than some of you though.

Re: Countryfile Sunday 3rd July - Large Blue
As a recovering trainspotter.....10 years without writing down a number......I'd just like to say that the majority of trainspotters are normal people engaged in a hobby that can be as rewarding as butterfly spotting, indeed there are many similarities between the two hobbies. Having said that there...

Re: Bee ID
Thanks Mark. I thought it was a mining bee but couldn't find anything that looked right in my collins guide.
It was found at Lawton Heath (not a heath by any stretch of the imagination)
OS grid reference: SJ808565
Date: 11th March 2012

I send my dog out to chase them off. Never caught one yet and if she did I doubt she'd know what to do!

I have visited this site a couple of times over the last 2 years in hope of finding purple hairstreaks but have been unsuccessful. Has anyone seen them there or am I just chasing ghosts? Any tips on whereabouts on the site I should be looking?

Big moth
Can anyone help me to identify this moth that terrorised my sister earlier this evening.
Sorry about the picture quality but I wasn't allowed to spend too long taking pictures of it as my sister was screaming at me to "GET IT" and the dog was barking!!

My colour perception is known to be slightly dodgy but i've always thought that female Brimstones have a greenish tint to them.

Re: Where have all the butterflies gone?
I think the poor weather is playing a part in this. They dont feel like coming out when its cloudy and neither do I, therefore I dont see as many butterflies.

Is that really true? Or is it more a question of the people at the top thinking that this is the case?Piers wrote:
