Twenty years ago when I had time to go looking for butterflies all the books used to say the large tortoiseshell was extinct (or at least not seen) in the UK

I see what ou mean.

I stil tend to think it was a skipper - somehow not as pronouced as the moth. Will have to take a good look when I go back next week.

Grizzled Skipper???

Hi Was out yesterday and amongst the Dukes Isaw what I think might have been a Grizzled skipper (or two). They was fast flying, had thin anntena and were active even though it wasnn't hot or sunny. However, I can't decide if it definitely was or not becuase it didn't look exactly like int he books. ...
