Re: Epic Butterfly Walk!

You'll never get another chance to do this so make the most of it. What rubbish is this??? We're planning next year's stroll already! Actually we are currently enjoying a rest day at St Blazey with our good friend Danny The Pirate. Back to the roads again soon enough though! Only managed 60 m...

Re: Dave Brown

Hiya Dave,

sorry to be a bit late to the party but I think your bird is indeed the (returning heh heh heh) Ring-necked Duck

Good luck with the rest of the Spring goodies. I'm reckoning a rare Sylvia and Bee-eaters could be coming your way...

Cheers mate,

Gibster.

Re: Where to go tomorrow? (starting from Cambridge)

Come down to Land's End car park, Cornwall at 10am. Then you can meet me and Sami as we begin our Epic Butterfly Walk all the way into Scotland! 1200 miles of butterflying, botanising and birding with no-one but ourselves to answer to. It's gonna be GREAT!!! So if you set off in about 2 hours or so ...

Re: May 2012

Four Holly Blues found mud-puddling in Luxulyan Valley, Cornwall this afternoon. Also another 2 or 3 flying through the wooded glades, plus a male Brimstone and a Small White too. Nesting Dippers and Grey Wagtails on the river, beautiful weather...very nice indeed! :) Starting our Epic Butterfly Wal...

Re: Epic Butterfly Walk!

12hrs til D-Day and counting. Sami's taking a lighter load for the first few days at least, just to give her ankle a fighting chance of recovery. We did a few practice miles today with a couple of light gradients and the ankle held up pretty well. Fast healer my missus! On the flip side my pack now ...

Re: May 2012

Down at Prisk Cove near Falmouth today. Had a female Wall and 2 Common Blues in lovely warm sunshine.

Sami's ankle is getting less swollen, but still no good for the LEJOG. Few more days yet!

Cheers,

Gibster.

Re: May 2012

I'm currently ensconced in Western Cornwall. On 4th May had a Peacock and Small White in woodland near St Kew. On 5th I married Sami, so didn't really do much butterflying! On 6th the same site had Speckled Wood, a Small White and 3 Large Whites (the latter chasing up a quarry face before one flew o...

Hello Everyone, and many thanks for all your kind words. Re: Epic Butterfly Walk!

And £3 for each recognised subspecies perhaps..? We aren't taking our dslr, but Sam's iphone is pretty darn good. We'll do our best to photograph all that we can. Seems almost perverse not to be packing the camera, but we plan to travel light. Although I absolutely cannot be without my trusty...

Re: April 2012

After my 3-day Stag Do on Portland Bill I now know everything I ever wanted to know about rain. Vertical rain, oblique rain, horizontal rain, rain that stings like having gravel thrown in your face, ice cold rain, rain that messes up your optics, rain that keeps you awake at night...and I'm not even...

Hi ScottD, We did notice that Glasgow & SW Scotland were one of the keenest BC branches regards sharing our video and flagging up our website. However, we didn't honestly envision the offer of beers and grub...clearly you have a truly fantastic committee! We salute you!!! :D Hi again David, in a...

Aaah...that'll be a female Misumena vatia. Apparently they are able to change their colour to match the flowerhead, although the process takes a few days. Not sure it will end up the same colour as your flowers, mind! White, pale green and yellow are favourites.

Nice sequence! :)

Re: Susie

I always think that flying Emperor Moth males - and Oak Eggars for that matter - resemble tiny, low-level, out of control fighter jets. I always find myself waiting for the explosion!!! :D Jersey Tigers look a lot like Painted Ladies in flight, but more yellow. Caught me out a few times... Cheers, G...

Epic Butterfly Walk!

Pete has already flagged this up on the UKButterfly home page, so here are a few more details... Sami and I are finally doing the decent thing and are getting married on 5th May this year (currently that's just a smidge under three weeks time - gulp!!!) We've been together for over four years now, S...
