Re: Neil Hulme

Delighted you have a rewarding holiday down here in sunny Cornwall last week. You were really lucky with the weather Neil. The best abundance spike/mass emergence of butterflies I ever had over the past 40 years of butterfly study & watching was a good friend of mine (Barry Ofield) who's now 82...

Re: European Swallowtail in South Devon

Well done Lee, and of course Robert. I bet you were relieved when it flew back for pictures to prove to everyone one else that you hadn't been snacking on wild mushrooms  Great picture too :) I will be heading down to Cornwall on Friday, for a week near Helston. I am hoping to see Clouded Yel...

Re: European Swallowtail in South Devon

Hi Mark, Yep....He is well pleased with himself & I doubt I would have seen it! The visit was until then a failure in that we didn't see the Brown Hairstreak so we were literally walking back to our car when it was seen flying across the field into the corner where we saw it! Was so pleased to ...

European Swallowtail in South Devon

Well folks........A huge turn up for the books today!! We saw something we never thought we'd ever find in Britain!! We all visited a site in South Devon to look for a Brown Hairstreak butterfly. After 60 minutes we had no sign at all and it was time to take our sons, Robert & Michael to their ...

I agree with Pete. Not too difficult to obtain livestock of this I've been told & as it is fresh & non migratory it must be a release!

Re: Mountain ringlet in cumbria

Try the Hardknott Pass......Park in visitor centre of Slate Quarry I think Lee might mean Honister Pass instead of Hardknott Pass. At least that's where I saw them a couple of years ago. Cheers John Errrrrr.....Sorry...I did mean Honister Pass! I'm sure they will be finished at Irton Fell but am pr...

Re: essex buzzard

Hi Mark, I visited Arnside Knott on Monday 7th July with my 10 year old son, Robert and like you had no success with photographing anything as everything had new Duracell batteries in & were flying at speed without stopping. Ticks were everywhere too!! I would think from your photo that it IS a...

Re: Mountain ringlet in cumbria

Try the Honister Pass......Park in visitor centre of Slate Quarry and walk up behind it on the footpath (bit steep to begin with) and eventually you'll come to a ruined engine house after 1KM or so but then turn left on an obvious footpath where it will only go uphill gradually and you will start t...
