Re: Using nets in Spain

Go use a net & don't be bullied by anyone who thinks you are on a mass murder campaign! We were very successful in Cornwall since the early 1990's in separating Pearl-Bordered Frits from Small Pearl-Bordered Frits & most of us use nets for this in our branch of Butterfly Conservation Cornwal...

Hi all My Wife & our 2 x young children today visited the edge of Penhale Sands, Perranporth, North Cornwall & saw the following mostly under cloudy skies or light sea fog! Mostly cloudy but saw 1 x Silver Studded Blue (a pristine & absolutely perfect male & 1st of season!), 2 x Ding...

Re: May 2010 sightings

My wife and I drove up to the Scottish Highlands last Wednesday, in the hope of finding Chequered Skippers :? We had booked the trip a couple of months ago and had been very worried that the cool spring weather would have held the butterfly back by a few days and we might arrive a day or two too ea...

Re: May 2010 sightings

Re: The Butterflies of Britain & Ireland (2nd Edition)

I still remember when Jeremy Thomas gave an illustrated talk at Truro Museum, Cornwall on 9th June 1993 on the Large Blue butterfly when our Cornwall branch of Butterfly Conservation was launched after Jeremy leading us all round Greenscoombe Woods in East Cornwall amongst 100+ Heath Fritillaries ea...

Re: The Butterflies of Britain & Ireland (2nd Edition)

Mine NOT arrived! Lucky those who have received it already! Hopefully tomorrow (Thursday) will bring my package? Any more early reviews yet? I still think the 1991 1st version is brilliant for its time. Virtually a modern day Frohawk 'The Natural History of British Butterflies' which was published i...

Re: The Butterflies of Britain & Ireland (2nd Edition)

Not long to go now! Thomas & Lewington's 'The Butterflies of Britain & Ireland (2nd Edition)' is supposed to be out on 30th April, 2010 in just 4 days time. Perhaps whoever gets their copy first could post their findings on this thread?
Cheers,
Lee.

Re: The Butterflies of Britain & Ireland (2nd Edition)

Agreed, a bargain at £22.00 and only £1.00 P & P per copy as well as signed by Jeremy & Richard too!! I've already ordered 2 x copies; 1 for field use and 1 to keep with my best books on the bookshelf. This edition together with the 1st edition are the modern Frohawk calibre books! Frohawk d...

Re: Butterflies on National Trust Land

The Glanville Fritillary is found at Compton Bay on south coast of Isle of Wight which is owned by The National Trust so Its not that species! Its not Large Blue either! (Collard Hill). I think that the Heath Fritillary is found on National Trust land on Exmoor so that species is discounted! I'll pl...
