Re: Epic Butterfly Walk!

Remember folks..............a minimum donation of £1.00 would be good to all those not yet donated. If you can afford more then that would be great! These "toughies" have still nearly 400 miles to go before reaching John o groats!! Seth has shin splints and Sami has had problems with her ...

Re: Pearl-bordered or Small Pearl-bordered?

Definately Small Pearl as I have seen them in Glen Loy just north of Fort William many times as this is the Scottish subspecies 'insularum'.
Hope this helps!!
Cheers,
Lee (Cornwall).

Re: rarest UK butterfly

Duke of Burgundy!!! on all 3 counts!!
There are more Large Blues & Glanvilles & probably more High Brown Fritillaries (certainly bigger habitats) than Dukes in my opinion!! We need to preserve & increase the Dukes before it is too late!!
Cheers,
Lee (Cornwall).

Re: October 2011 sightings

Very surprised to see a single small copper during a lengthy walk in the Trent valley on Sunday. In the margins of an agricultural field between the Nottinghamshire villages of Fiskerton and Morton. In decent condition too. I often used to see Small Coppers up until around the 20th October in South...

Re: Chequered Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2011

I don't discount an element of luck but our success rate has been due to Phils diligent research and our Perseverance. I wonder how many people would have looked out of their hotel window and thought, not worth looking. We had about dozen parked up on their Bluebells, Photos taken 7th June btw Rosa...

Re: Chequered Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2011

Good old Glen Loy!!!! Been there many times & slept in my car many times during the 80's & 90's whilst locating & studying them. Must say that your fortunate to find them in the rain as they usually are very difficult to find unless the sun is out. Well done indeed & hope you gained...

Re: Best Week For Chequered Skipper

Hi I'm planning a trip to Mull next year. I wanted to go in the first week of May to be able to photograph Corncrake before they all disappear into the grass. I was hoping to combine the trip with seeing Chequered Skipper at either Glasdrum or Glen Loy. Will I be too early for them defo being out? ...

Yep, I agree...ab: 'multiocellata'. We get them once or twice a year here in Cornwall which seems more frequent than nationally! Lovely specimen anyway!!

Re: Glanville Fritillary at Wrecclesham, Surrey?

What a great story! Well done to that breeder! Let's hope the Glanville Fritillary colony continues to thrive & prosper. If it has been in existance for 9 years then it should continue to thrive as long as the habitat continues to be suitable ie: continuous slippage or similar to help regenerat...

Re: April 2011

Visited Bunny's Hill near Bodmin in mid-Cornwall today at 3:30pm for 1 hour with my wife Lisa, Robert & Michael Slaughter and amongst mainly cloudy conditions but with hazy sunny spells saw 4 x different Pearl-Bordered Fritillaries. 1 was on the lower slope (fresh male) and 2 more males and a f...
