Re: June 2024

Hi, was it Durlston you were at, and were there plenty of Lulworth's out? I'm planning a trip down to see this butterfly this year. Thanks. [/quote] I visited Lulworth itself, parked in the village and walked up Bindon Hill and along and down to the Cove and there were very good numbers of Lulworths...

"Wurzel recently posted shots of a similar butterfly (though that was an individual far more extreme than this one)"...I reckon this one is still worth   8) As others have said very striking and it could almost be a different race/species :D Variation is such a great thin...

"No eye-catching ab’s today" I reckon that female Common Blue, whilst not an 'ab' is still pretty eye-catching Bugboy -a lovely slaty blue 8)

Cracking shot of the Four-spot Trevor 8) Also great selection of Silver-studs :D The first female shot seems to have a line of 'male' blue through the hind wing - could this be ever so slightly gynandromorph? :? 8)

An eclectic collection there Guy 8) I found myself drawn to the Geranium Argus in particular as it seems to have a different look about it almost bluey-brown 8)

Re: millerd

Fantastic shots Dave 8)  It seems an early start pays off with this species, not as gentlemanly as it's Brown relation which affords us a nice lie-in, leisurely breakfast and back home in time for a spot of Tiffin

"Senior moment at work there!" no worries Trevor, I'm still the other side of 50 and have those   Nice to see the oily sheen on the fresh Meadow Brown, they often hide that  :D

A cracking collection of Silver-studs Katrina :D 8) I didn't know about the 'blue' hour before :D I tried to have a look at whether your 'murrf' was narrow or broad and I would veer towards Broad as it's the commoner of the two  Still great to see

Love the Skipper on the Orchid - I could do with that one in my collection  Speaking of which you're not paranoid Ernie - over the years there have been a few 'lurkers' on UKB :? it's a shame as people that genuinely want to marvel at the variation miss out but then keeping 'mum' works out ...

Lovely shot of the Meadow Brown Neil 8) - they don't normally open up like that at this time of year; when they're all ragged and torn or course they practically flaunt their topside   Things have been very slow and everyone I talk to seems to ask the same question "where are all the...

That last Meadow Brown shot is a cracker Dilettante :D 8) Also the Bee Orchid shot made me chuckle - to my eyes they look like very smiley little gnomes in brown dungarees and green hats and the one bottom left is obviously shy so is hiding his head in his hands

Martin Down 19-05-2024 The weather forecast for the Saturday hadn’t been that accurate, instead of the heavy shows and black clouds there was a little covering of grey and even the occasional brighter interlude that had me second guessing about staying in and catching up on Wandavision. This boded ...
