A visit to Fermyn wood. 9-7-10 and 9-7-10. Took a trip to Norfolk this weekend for swallowtails. Visited strumpshaw fen, How hill and Catfield fen, all produced swallowtails but very few numbers, even on a warm sunny day. This swallowtail flew by and decided to land on the buttercups just in front of me, right place, right time.

A scarce chaser in your garden, thats amazing
Yesterday a few hours spent at Messingham NR produced hairy dragonflies and four spotted chasers.

I visited the Holies yesterday to look for adonis blues but was very surprised to see 5 club-tailed dragonflies such a distance from the river which was good because it saved me precious time looking for them elsewhere.

A visit to River Eau at Susworth produced six species of damselfly Azure, common blue, blue tailed, variable, red eyed and large red. Went to Lardon chase, Berkshire looking for adonis blues unsuccessfully, but i met a woman doing a butterfly transect who kindly showed me where to find them. 24 species for me, all in the excellent year of 2006. Small and large skipper, clouded yellow, brimstone, small, large and gv white, orange tip, small copper, brown argus, common and holly blue, red admiral, peacock, small tortoiseshell, painted lady, comma, speckled wood, wall, grayling, gatekeeper...

Has anyone seen any second brood adonis blues yet, i am on holiday next week and i am planning a trip down south to see chalkhill blue and silver spotted skipper, if i can see all three it would be terrific, i was too early for the first brood of adonis when i went to Goring for the clubtail dragonf...

From the car pk follow the main track at the gate, it bears round to the left, follow it to the end where it continues straight on and another track bears right, theres a bench between the two. A visit to Crowle Moor NR in North Lincs produced a common hawker, several southern hawkers ,common darter, ruddy darter and four spot chaser.

A visit to Crowle moor in North Lincs on 5-7-09 produced many large heaths along with ringlet, meadow brown, large skippers everywhere, and a few gatekeepers. At Risby Warren, also in North Lincs there was plenty of Grayling about, once they landed and closed their wings they became almost invisible...

Hi Jack At first i could not find any where to park, i continued past the research centre and turned left at the next turn off, short way down the road on the left there is parking for a few cars, where the bollards are.Follow the footpath through the woods, after a while it bears left and continues...

Today i made my first visit to Monks wood in search of my first black hairstreak. 9.30am - 3.00pm.
In two locations i managed to see around 25, with some landing for photo opportunities.
