cheap stick-on close-up lens for camera phones

Has anyone tried one of these? http://www.gizmag.com/camera-phone-fisheye-macro-wide-angle-phone-lenses/16031/ Of course, it isn't going to deliver the results of a "proper" camera with a proper close-up leans. But could it be any good for those of us who own only camera phones? Could it b...

Japanese researchers create artificial butterfly

From Gizmag I can't seem to make the video appear here. But here's a link to the youtube item. I don't think real butterflies have anything to worry about... Last year, we brought you the story of tech company AeroVironment’s life-size artificial hummingbird, that flies solely by flapping its wings...

Butterfly Alphabet

A photographer, Kjell Sandved, noticed a butterfly's wing with a pattern that looked like the letter F. He set to work. 25 years later, he had collected enough images to put together a full alphabet. http://www.butterflyalphabet.com/posters/images/BA1NEW.jpg Here's another one, with different images...

Let us know what you think of them. I suspect you will be really pleased with your new window into the insect world.

Re: Altered Images !

I thought xmilehigh's black background seemed wrong for the wood white - or indeed for any butterfly. To my eyes, butterflies are beautiful creatures of summer; the backgrounds should (usually) be in summer colours - like the painted lady in the second pic. And in hindsight, maybe Denise could have ...

Re: Binoculars for butterflies

Well, after re-reading the reviews on Birdforum.net , I got a pair of the £19.99 10x42 7dayshop binoculars (picture above). The build quality looks and feels surprisingly good. The optics do not appear to be coated however: look at them from the wrong end and you can see a clear reflection of your f...

10x42 roofs for £19.99 inc p&p!

The monocular has arrived, it's not quite as good as the Pentax Papilios, despite having a 32mm objective lens compared to the (twin) 21mm OLs of the Papilio. But I'll keep it, it's a handier size for stuffing into pockets. Continuing my binocular binge, I see these waterproof (nitrogen-purged) 10x4...

Re: Binoculars for butterflies

I first heard about the Pentax Papilio on another forum, birdforum.net . The second post on that link is particularly informative. This article on betterviewdesired is also good, as is this from birdwatching.com. Then I read this thread. I searched the net for the best price. But at £100 it was a bi...
