Freshly emerged at Cerne Abbas today.
Loads of caterpillars still active, you can't walk without treading on them. Although i do try.

Re: Duke of Burgundy
Reports of Dukes seem to be coming in from everywhere,,, except on the 'so called' , 5 star site at Buckland Wood. Me and a friend covered this wood pretty extensively on Thurs 28th, and there was noticeably no real butterfly activity of any sort on the higher sunny clearings. Not even a Speckled Wo...

Re: April 2011
Hundreds of Marsh Frits reported on lower slopes of Giant's Hill Cerne Abbas yesterday. Up until now this site has been heaving with butterflies, but i don't know how the weather change today will affect the numbers.

Buckland Wood for Dukes.
Does anybody know Buckland Wood, Somerset? What the terrain is like? (Can't do too hilly). Also where are the DOB hotspots at the site? Grateful for a bit of info.

Re: April 2011
Two Frits in one day yesterday,,, one of which is a 'lifer'. :D PBF Bentley wood (Eastern clearing). Arrived 9.00 am, and wasn't disappointed. Only 'topshots' really possible, unless you were very lucky, but they were settling for quite long spells. I suppose this is a male, but really unsure. Thank...

Re: Plans for next year?
It could make one feel really inadequate. When someone inevitably looks at you in utter dis-belief, and exclaims, 'What,,,,, never touched an adder'???? I'm on my sixth. Of course there are far more dangerous touch challenges than that, some to be encountered in bus queues.

That is a very useful post David. I wondered if someone could do a similar one with directions to the PBFs at Bentley Wood.Further to the information I posted on Friday, here are some supporting images along with advice on how to locate these species at this locality:
