On Scillies during the past week there were;

Lots and lots of Red Admirals and Clouded Yellows

Smaller numbers of Speckled Wood, Small Copper and Peacock.

Also saw a few Painted Ladies and just a single Large White.

Just missed seeing 2 female Long-tailed Blue's. Shame.

Hi all, Just spent a week down south myself. My highlights were; Lulworth Skipper easy to find at Durlston CP with plenty of Marbled Whites there. Quite a few Clouded Yellows in the Swanage area. Just a single (roosting) Silver Spotted Skipper at Broughton Down, again thanks to my very sharp eyed gi...

Hi all, I managed to see 1 on Thursday at Noar Hill (thanks to my girlfriend who has razor sharp eyes!) about 150 yards from the entrance. Only for about 5 seconds or so though. This would seem to be a really tough species for most people. BH and Mountain Ringlet must rate as the hardest of all Brit...

It is a good spot for them yes.

Also heard that the colony on South Stack had emerged early this year.

Arnside Knott

Just thought I'd mention this site as being one of the best butterfly sites in Northrn England. Yesterday I saw, quite easily, Northern Brown Argus, High Brown Fritillary (lots of them), Grayling - I think these are early, and, Small Pearl Bordered Frit which I wasn't expecting there. Last year, lat...

Just thought I'd let anyone interested know that I tried the Wrynose Pass site yesterday, but sadly, failed to see any MR's. It was rather overcast (the sun shone at times. but rather weakly) so I suppose that would be a big factor in not seeing them.

I'm planning on doing similar only a week later.

I'm not too confident with Brown Hairstreak though, I think I may be a tad early, though you never know.

Mountain Ringlet

Hi folks, Over the next weekend or two, of course weather permitting, I hoping to go to the Lake Distrci for Mountain Ringlet. I tried last year, on a glorious sunny afternoon in early July, but with no joy, primarily from a lack of precise information. Could anyone help me ut with a Lake District s...

Pete,

Any update on how you went on at Glasdrum Wood? Would be interested in both Chequered Skipper and Marsh Frits.

Just thought some of you guys may fancy an update from yesterday. I visited Salcey Wood in Northants - this is the most Northern site I could find, 2 1/4 drive from Wakefield. Struggled like mad to find a WW - eventually found 1 male after around 3 hours of searching down all the tracks and rides. W...

Might see you there, Vince.

Same species as targets as well.

Does anyone know anything about the Small Blue sites in Northern Scotland either?

For anyone interested I visited last Saturday, and after it had stopped raining managed to locate one PBF, which was perched. The reserve warden had had 40 odd earkier in the week in somewhat better weather, with this years maximum count on the reserve 98, a number which has been steadily rising ove...

Hi John,

This looks to me like a Purple and Gold Pyralid moth, it's a micro-moth (don't ask me why its a micro).
I saw one or two myself this weekend in North Wales.
