Re: Barnack

It is in Cambridgeshire. There are are a few sightings on the Cambs-Essex website, but we are a bit thin on the ground north of Peterborough Adrian. It is listed on here for Green Hairstreak, Marbled White and Chalkhill Blue

Thank you Bill. As the old saying goes, the harder you work the luckier you seem to get. Many hours put in but well worth it. I should like to add my thanks to all the people on here who take time to post sightings and write diaries, it's what makes this site so great :D

Re: June 2014

What a surprising weekend it has been for Black Hairstreak! I began the day with my transect at Woodwalton. Approaching the edge of a wooded area I stirred a Black Hairstreak  It flitted around in the grass before heading off into Riddy Wood. This is a good 1.5 kilometres away from Monks Wood...

Re: June 2014

I went to Monks Wood after work today, not really expecting to see anything other than a possible high flying BH. I was only saying to someone this week I had never seen them on the Privet. This photo was taken at 4.55 and although warm no sun. It's certainly not behaviour I have noticed before. BH_...

Re: June 2014

I've never been to Monks Wood before and looking at the OS map, it looks large enough to come away empty handed if you don't locate the correct locations. Also is there a time of the day that is best. Hi Kev As long as the sun is shining Black Hairstreak can be seen throughout the day, although the...

Re: June 2014

Lovely Frit pics Bill. Monks Wood Cambs. We thought the perfect end to our week would be a possible Black Hairstreak in our own 'back yard'. So with fingers crossed I headed out early as it was already warm and sunny. Within minutes of getting to the best ride I had 2 in my sights, woohooo. They wer...

Re: June 2014

We wish you could have been there too Neil, you could have deflected some of the midges away from us. On the whole the Scottish trip was a successful one despite the weather, we don't like to make it too easy, although I imagine in hot weather the Chequered Skipper is hard to pin!!!! down. Wit...

Hi Jack, I'm pleased you had had better luck at Ardery than at Ariundle, though it is always a bonus to bump into a local to point you in the right direction. See you when you venture southward again :P

Re: June 2014

Thank you for your kind comments. It is not for the faint hearted, we got soaked several times and the midges are also out in force. Our holiday week continues thus. Woke up to a lovely morning in Glen Loy yesterday, for a change, so we explored further than the 'hot spot'. We found Chequered...

Re: June 2014

Phil & I met up with Jack Harrison and his friend Mike Rubin at Ariundle this morning. (It was good to see you again Jack and to meet you Mike). We had come to look for Chequered Skippers. After a couple of hours of varied weather we had found only 2 between us. In the afternoon Phil & I hea...
