Brown Hairstreaks

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust have reported a colony of Brown Hairstreaks in North Staffordshire (only info given out) Locals have known about them for a number of years but this is the first Staffordshire record.

Hi all,
Great pics, would love to see a Raft spider.It was fascinating watching the male Wolf offering a food parcel to the female and hoping for the best (rather him than me!!!)never stayed to see result.

Hi Denise,
No never seen a Wren doing it either.My brother has got some remarkable old photos of a Magpie preening a Buzzard while the Buzzard was quite content to let him. :)

Your Wren was probably sun bathing and making sure all of it's body was warmed up Hi, the Wren is an adult dust bathing, they maintain their feathers by ridding them of excess oils and dead skin which stick to the dust. Great story Pauline,
I think the unexpected encounter with wildlife is much better than staking somthing out.You can tell that the Hare is trying
to work out what you are and whether it can get away.

Hi Pauline, Great pics, whats the story on your second one was it coming towards you or did you just happen on it ? Hares box all year just more concentrated feb/march so keep trying.Ive seen them box last week but to early light wise to photograph (never mind nice to see) Shaun.

No I wasnt in a hide I watched a buck following the scent trail of a doe and managed to squeek it up to about 20 ft away,

Nice pics all, Glad you got to see your Nuthatch again Eccles.Waxwings still hanging around here in smaller numbers but so is the naff weather.Ive been staking out a field for a good place to catch these Hares boxing,managed to get them practising last year but not the full monty . Shaun.

Hi Ian and Andy.This is a gem of a website whether your into general wildlife like me or just butterflies and photography there isnt anything these guys dont know between them.Stick around and watch the heated debates on the photo comps there better than watching corri, :D

Cheers Eccles, I could hear the Tree Sparrow but couldnt see him and by the time I could I managed 2 pics and he buggered off :) Nice to hear the Ravens are doing well,10 years ago Wales was the only place I had seen them now you can see them just about anywhere . improved background with the stick ...

Hawfinch is a nice find Eccles well done must be a good winter for them,They tend to stay in one area when feeding so worth another look.Hornbeam seeds favourite.Small flocks Brambling around here to

The pics were taken while walking along the side of Draycott Water, Ive got no tripod and the biggest lense I own is a 300mm so they were very close.
