I think no 1 is the Antillean Daggerwing (Marpesia eleuchea eleuchea) http://butterfliesofamerica.com/marpesi ... cimens.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marpesia_eleuchea
It is similar to Marpesia petreus.

Great posts Lee, I have enjoyed reading them :D On Monday I visited the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum and was pleased to see a great butterfly photo exhibited (a rarity) - it happened to be the Apollo so it was good to see your pics of this lovely butterf...

Re: Wisley "Butterflies in the Glasshouse"
Phil, that was a great observation about the additional Owl species. I checked my photos from the last Friday and noted that all my Owls were Caligo eurilochus, so thanks for that. Unfortunately I didn't see the male (orange) Shoemaker, but Mark did on the Tuesday so perhaps you are thinking of his ...

Re: Mark Colvin
Mark, it was a privilege to share the experience with you today. Your story about the children demonstrates the value of butterfly houses. By sharing the butterfly story in such a close up and personal way with the next generation we improve our chance of conserving our native species.

Re: Wisley "Butterflies in the Glasshouse"
