Re: Another bird please.
A pedant writes: not only is the white rump a defining character, it is also the reason for the bird's name, which comes from the Old English hwit ears =white arse. The old pronunciation has been passed on orally almost unchanged, except for the loss of the s. The modern spelling is an example of fo...

Hi Vic.
Sorry to be a pain. I've just looked at some of your images, and would like to point out that your Brown Argus and orange flower shot is of a female Common Blue and orange flower!

I agree with Pete's suggestions. At least, the first two are definitely right. The white specks on the caterpillar may be eggs of a parasitic fly. I have often seen eggs like this on Mullein moth larvae.

Quite right Guy. I was too hasty, and over influenced by the slightly concave line of the forewing leading edge.

I think the skippers are all Grizzled (Pyrgus malvae), the second on Horseshoe Vetch. The Brimstones are G.rhamni. The erebias are Spring Ringlet E.epistygne.

Re: "Wrong" lenses
I seem to remember some years ago Nikon produced a macro zoom lens. I think it was 70-180mm. Of course you can end up with a macro zoom if you fit a high quality close-up lens, such as the Canon 500D (not to be confused with the camera of the same name) to a tele zoom of say 70-300mm focal length. I...

The first is certainly melanops but I think the second is possibly a worn bellargus.
