Re: September 2009 Sightings
Lee, Clouded Yellow larvae have overwintered successfully on the Bournemouth cliffs in most of the last ten years. In the species specific album for the Clouded Yellow you will see my photo of a Clouded Yellow drying its wings on 15 Apr 2007. The empty pupa can be seen in the lower left corner. The ...

Re: Species-Specific Albums
More nit-picking, I'm afraid. I was about to upload a couple of Small Copper images into the species-specific album, but I found I was confronted with a choice between two alleged sub-species. Ssp " eleus " sounds suspiciously like the form elea from the Balkans, of which I have uploaded a...

Re: Shooting hawk moths, any advice?
Like Eccles I have often noticed that Marbled Whites and other Satyrids seem to be particularly sensitive to noise, and over the years I have taken many photos of them on the point of take-off. It seems that it is mirror slap that spooks them. Some years ago it was suggested that the thickened veins...

Re: Egg laying behaviour Queen of Spain
I share Pete's doubts. My only experience of ovipositing QofS was in the Cantabrian Mts in northern Spain, where eggs were attached to the mountain pansies. Reluctantly, I suspect a Wall Brown may have been the culprit here.

Pete, I notice that for the Apollo in the species specific albums you list just two of the countless named sub-species. Do I take it that you do not want anything from the Pyrenees?

Re: Species-Specific Albums
Pete, I think I must have messed up. I have uploaded a Large Tort. photo to the species specific albums. The thumbnail appears in the right place, but if I click on Large Tort. my image appears below the albums, and not in an album. Be patient with me; I'm a bit of a duffer with computers.
