Re: First aberration of 2009?

Hi Eccles Thanks for showing your observations. I bought A.S.Harmer's book "Variations in British Butterflies" last year, and you have encouraged me to get it off the shelf and actually read it. :D A brief look at the drawings (plates) does not show your ST as a known ab. in this book! I s...

A wild guess at #7 would be in the Pterophoridae (Stenoptilia pterodactyla).

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds) - 3

Hi Eccles, On your trip to New Fancy View did you get to see any Goshawk ?
I agree with Nick that at first glance Gruditch's Kestrel has a lot of rufous underneath !
Nick what's the story with the Waxwing(s) ringed at Aberdeen.

Re: Good sites

Hi Shirley I am aware that the Lleyn is a beautiful area; I have some friends that visit there regularly. I think it is an underrated part of Wales. I have been there in my younger days, Pwllheli Good ole Butlins. I’ve enjoyed so many trips into Wales, camping as well as day trips. I really need to ...

Re: Good sites

We (the wife and I) are thinking that we would like to take Susies advice and visit Denbies Hillside, but would also like to have a list of other sites nearby. Just noticed that there is a facility on this site to see what there is in a particular area. I was looking at grid square "TQ", t...

Re: Good sites

Hi Gruditch, Thanks for your suggestion. I was right confused for a while, I thought the Isle of Purbeck would be an island off the coast, but it’s so far down it might as well be. The “Lookout Café” sounds like it’s worth a visit too. What an array of species, looks like all of the Skippers are the...

Re: Dates

Pete Thanks for your reply thats very kind of you. Unfortunately copy and paste does not work either. I have no understanding why my printer does not print across multiple pages on this graph, as it does at other times. Have you tried it yourself ?

Hi My appologies if this question has been asked a lot before. My wife say's it's time to book her holiday's from work. Is there a printable table of all species of butterfly I might expect to see in the UK. But also with their flight times, so I can see at a glance the best times to book holiday's....

ab. snellini.

Hi I’m trying to understand the Subgenus Aricia a little better. It’s the variation ab. snellini that has me confused. Please correct me if I have understood it wrongly but can this ab.”Snellini” be a variation of both Aricia artaxerxes and Aricia agestis . I have the book Variations in British Butt...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds) - 2

Just been looking at these really good pics, thanks.
The white ducks ( Mallard is the only duck to have curled tail feathers ) as seen in photo.
Interestingly Mute Swans are the only Swans that make a noise with there wings in flight, and can be easily heard when flying past. :)

Re: Small or Essex

Hi
I originally thought that this Butterfly may not be able to give a definate identification and wondered how others might record it. Thanks Guy for the help.
I was and still am confident in your expertise/knowledge to accept this as an Essex and am grateful for your help.
Thanks also to Eccles.
