Re: Sites near Bicester
David, That would be a sad loss if this colony failed, not least for the Glanville but also for the many who find the challenge of travelling to the IOW a bit daunting. It would be interesting to know how long ago that colony was introduced and wether or not worth rebuilding it and what the problem ...

Saw a Comma on Tuesday the 8th a lovely sunny day.
Sparrows have been lining their nests with the fibres off the hanging baskets. They could be laying in a few day's.

Re: Good sites
Well it's been 3 months since I started this thread and i'm leaving Merseyside for Denbies tomorrow morning (thanks for the advice Susie) about 4/5 hour drive. I'm really looking foreward to it as I never get to that part of this wonderful country. I notice Susie has organised a trip later in August...

Re: April 2009 Lepidoptera Sightings
Thanks Pete, Trev,
Trev I never gave that a thought but I think you must have it. I will show her a pic and see what she says. Thanks for the idea. It was from her back garden and she described it pumping its wings etc.
Regards cjs.

Re: April 2009 Lepidoptera Sightings
Hi All,
An elderly lady I know has just described to me what appears to be a Peacock emerging from its chrysalis. She described a colourful butterfly with large round eyes emerging from a chrysalis. As far as I am aware they only emerge from mid July. Is she mistaken?
Regards cjs.

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds) - 3
Hi Eccles Robins cannot be sexed on plumage. In fact it is possible, but not easy, to separate our Robin, Erithacus rubecula melophilus from the Scandinavian Nominate subspecies E.r.rubecula by plumage, but best by jizz. However it was after reading a book by T. Birkhead “The Wisdom of Birds” that l...

Hi Denise,
I did not want to question your observations, on the contrary mine. If that is the bird that was being fed then I agree with you it’s a female.
