Re: November Up close and personal results

Congrats geniculata,

An excellent shot, just love the way those eye's seem to peer out of the photo at you & well done to all that entered, of the themed comps I think this is one is my favourite.

Cheers

Re: October 2009 Sightings

Great sighting Vince. I was at Slimbridge WWT on Monday and saw a very brief glimpse of what I thought was a SW Fritillary but quickly dismissed it given the time of year and put it down as Painted Lady. But having seen the pics posted by Vince I'm now second guessing myself, I wonder  Here's...

A New website and Fourm for Dragonflies

Hi All, Just to let you know of a new forum/website dedicated to Dragonflies / Damselflies. There are many websites for Dragonflies with a lot of information, but a forum could not be found for people to chat about these creatures and so with the help a friend UK Dragonflies has been launched. The U...

Re: GPS data in images

I tried this geotagging for real today, managed to remember to sync the camera with the GPS unit, and start to record my wanderings. Unfortunately no butterflies to be seen, but I did get a shot of an ovipositing Common Hawker dragonfly. Once at home the files were processed using the Geosetter soft...

Re: Another Drangonfly ident

Hi Lee,

Nice shot, I reckon you have an immature female Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) there. The coloration in the mature specimen is a lot more striking.

Re: GPS data in images

Hi Pete, Yep it's spot on so to speak :D I think the camera time is/was set reasonably accurately. I used a Garmin gpx file & the Geosetter software you mentioned. I have known about this feature but never been inspired to try it out so thanks for this. This is an excellent way to get back to ex...

Bet they also may be interested in this Canon 7D. The new AF system looks very intriguing.

Re: Voting Mechanism

Hi, I don't think average scoring mechanism is the way to go. As you have clearly pointed out averages can be very misleading. Another idea would be to award multiple points for example (assuming the software can be tailored to support it). If you were allotted 5 votes in total, your first choice wo...

Maybe try these

Host plants:

It feeds mainly on poplar and aspen but sometimes on willow, alder, apple, birch, elm, oak and ash. The food plant often depends on location (Pittaway, 1993).

Quick rethink here 1600 is large for a screen display 1024 or 1280 would probably be better.
