Re: Anyone know what happened here?
I did read somewhere that wasps will bite the heads off already dead bees and take the thoraxes back to their nest for the young to feed on - but I don't think that could apply in this instance because it looks like the bodies have been discarded after decapitation, almost as if they were of no use

A couple of Large White in my yard at work today, and also a Red Admiral which flew into reception and then straight back out again

Re: Met Office Weather "Gadget"
hmmm... I have to say that I have had varying results - I took my vintage car out on Sunday to the BC meet I was attending because the Met Office rain forecaster said "no chance!" - they were wrong...

Re: Butterfly dreams
Had a very vivid dream last night that a Large Tortoiseshell appeared on the hanging baskets at my workplace - I was desperately trying to get photos before it disappeared - but I couldn't get the photos to post on the Sitings forum and I was worried that no-one would believe me. When i went back ou...

There must have some bloody dull people inhabiting the mailing list if they got upset about me mentioning John Lennon's birthday either dull or Rolling Stones fans :lol: as for getting told off for talking about Reals' wotsits, well, it's only discussing the physiological characteristics of a speci...
Re: Net Rage
I've no time for forums that don't allow at least a little bit of banter - and it's that banter that makes me more comfortable when meeting the other posters in "real life" - it says to me "hey, despite having an encyclopedic knowledge of butterflies and some really expensive cameras,...

Re: July 10th > Onwards
Hi Simon - I saw no Gatekeepers at all - in fact, there was precious little butterfly life in the wooded area right next to the quarry. Saplings have been planted (and wrapped with plastic to stop nibbling) in some of the more open areas - our guide said the dynamic of the wood had changed entirely ...

I had a fantastic trip to Blackmoor Nature Reserve near Cheddar yesterday with Butterfly Conservation. The tiniest glimpse of a Blue as it passed over our yard at work about five minutes ago - but too high and too swift to ID!

Re: Net Rage
We had "net rage" on another forum I post (prolifically) on - it all got rather nasty towards the end of last year, there was much sweary name-calling of the particularly disgusting type. Most of us know eachother socially there anyway, which probably didn't help. There were threats, there...

Daily Mail "Natural World" quiz
Lovely double page spread in the Daily Mail yesterday with various picture questions about the natural world (in reference to the research that found that more kids can identify a Darlek than a magpie) Only trouble is, they got the answers wrong! On clear picture of a weevil which asked whether it w...

That is a really interesting interview. Neil and Jack - I agree with you about talking to kids "in the field" - even I, as a young :lol: woman, am wary of speaking to nippers. The fact is that some kids just love to chat, especially when they've found something they've never seen before (i...

Combe Hill Wood on the Poldens on Saturday 12th, only up there for a short time. One Small White, two very, very fast SW Frits and one rather battered Speckled Wood;
