Re: Photography Trip to Mull

I have seen reports of then near Glengorm castle. I was on mull in 2012 for 4 days as part of our honeymoon tour of Scotland but the only orange butterflies I found when i had a couple of hours free to search were pearl border fritillaries. I think they are definitely there as I have seen reports an...

Re: Turkish Butterflies

Been trying to persuade the other half to go to turkey for a long time without success. There us the possibility of a family wedding next July there but suspect July is a pretty bad time for butterflies and most other wildlife then as everything must be tinder dry then?

Great set of SSB shots Pauline. I was just debating whether I should go check for these tomorrow as they must be due out about now and your report has now confirmed my plans for tomorrow! :)

Re: Turkish Butterflies

I'd call that as a cardinal myself. The red on the underside in the second shot is the giveaway. Definitely not dark green fritillary which looks very different.

Re: Andy Brown

Excellent shots Andy. You kept the emerging Adonis quiet! Had a look at old Winchester hill and beacon hill this morning. Not much at either really. Chalton down had several common blues but they were hyper at 9:30. I spotted some caterpillars on a plant in the garden yesterday and you have answered...

Re: Cerne Abbas

I was at Hod Hill on Saturday and there were 20 or so Marsh Fritillaries on the wing. Also loads of dingy and grizzled skippers plus a few common, Adonis and small blues, brown argus, Green hairstreaks. Small copper, orange tip, large and small white, brimstone, peacock and speckled wood. Probably m...

Re: Lumix FZ38 to FZ200

Hi Ian,

If you have an old verasion of lightroom possibly it doesn't support the RAW format for the FZ200. It appears that Adobe lightroom forums are down for maintenance at the moment but from what I can gather Lightroom 3 won't work with them but 4 and later I think will.

Re: Pauline

Hi Pauline, Lovely PBF pics. Had planned a trip to Rewell wood after work today myself but the weather never turned out as forecast so gave it a miss. Not had much luck with the weather year when I've had any free time! Those two newt pics are of a female common/smooth newt. I was quite chuffed to s...

Re: April 2014

Morning Pauline, The glow-worm Larvae was just walking across a bare bit of soil over one of the hillocks near the middle of the reserve it was the only one seen though. Kind Regards Andy I was thinking it looked a bit glow worm but haven't seen one in day light before and it wasn't keen in being p...

Re: Pauline

Hi Pauline,

I was told by locals last year the peregribmes nest on the cliffs and the nest in the pylon is in fact a Raven's nest.

Not been there yet this year but will when the weather is favourable. I was thinking the small blues should be about pretty soon.

Think we bumped into you at resell wood on Saturday. We only managed a couple of peacocks and then gave up as the cloud cover came over. If you go to Arundel you should have a walk along the stream below the castle. There are quite a lot of water voles there and they are very used to the large numbe...

I don't believe compact flash cards, which the 10d takes, have that facility. I have seen this on smaller format cards though.

Two male brimstones on the way to the garden centre at Horn Dean today. Also lots of bumble bees and flies about. Things are starting to get interesting!! I had forgotten I also had an unusual sighting of a peacock butterfly flirting around inside earls court last Saturday at the destinations travel...

Re: Black Images

I would think if the shutter is stuck you would be getting a very different sound when pressing the shutter button. Does the camera seem any different? My 10d shutter died on me and it was an expensive repair that wasn't worth doing so had to get a new camera. Fortunately it was just before the 1d m...

Re: Adonis Blue - Favourite Photo of 2013

Having moved to Hampshire just over 3 years ago I hadn't really seen Adonis Blues for a while as it turns out Hampshire is almost devoid of them. Old Winchester Hill had a small colony as a result of an introduction programme by the National Trust but they had fizzled out as a result of the poor sum...

Re: AES Exhibition 2013

My first trip to this event and boy was it crowded at the start. Good to catch up with Pete briefly towards the end. Bit difficuly to see more than 6 inches in front of your face in the crowds earlier in the day! Saw one other Hants BC member pass me by as we drifted allong with the flow. Lots of de...
