Re: Daily Quiz
I have cheated by google-ing it. There seem to be conflicting opinions out there... Can't wait to know the answer.... Ah... well I set the question by Googling it and the answer I found was: Our very own Brimstone! Which can live for over 12 months. For all those that said monarch, I could find onl...

Re: May Butterflies
Probably my 'come uppance' for trying to pass off a premature trip to the IOW as a 'family day out', with the (now ex) girlfriend a few weeks back. Oops! P1040276_edited-1.jpg Neil There's probably a whole new thread that could run full of stories of how we've tricked our loved ones into fol...

Re: Just really starting out with D-SLR
Ok thinking about where I went wrong, I, normally shoot handheld, and when I got close enough to subject, I was moving slightly and that moved camera and that moved out of focus a bit, got to start using tripod more, it would help in certian situations. I'm a big advocate for tripod use... but they...

Re: Montiaghs Moss
Sounds like a good day out Dave... my parents live near a huge moss in Shropshire and i could spend all day there! Of course, St Patrick didn't chase all the snakes out of England so you have to watch out for adders too! As a rule of thumb, if you take day trips out to unusual habitats, such as moss...

Re: Off on my Hols!
Im hoping to see some morpho's in the wild. Does anyone know what is the best time of year to see them? I stayed in Tulum a few years ago and saw morphos in February. You certainly know when you've seen one! You'll have to go into the jungle a bit... in my (brief) experience, they like the clearing...

Duke of Burgundy - North Yorkshire
A very rare sight in the new Garden of England... the Duke and Duchess of Burgundy... Absolutely thrilled to have stumbled across these today, it's taken four years for me to find any. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x298/xopher78/DukeofBurgundy-matingpair-NY-18thMa.jpg 1/125 @ f/8, 150mm on trip...

While on holiday in the west of Scotland, I returned to to the hotel after a Friday afternoon chasing Chequered Skipper around Glasdrum wood and was horrified to find a big fat tick about an inch below my belly button. Aware that you shouldn't just yank them out, I phoned my mother for advice. She i...

Only butterfly to produce a genuine green pigment? all the others (eg. OT, GVW) just appear green but are actually yellow and black when viewed closely??

This is a good link if you're stuck... it requires some trawling through, but it's pretty comprehensive.
