It definitely is, either tetragnatha elongata or tetragnatha montana. I like these spiders... they have some record for the largest mandibles/fangs relative to body size in the world from memory...Felix wrote: It looks like it could be from the family Tetragnathidae, genus Tetragnatha.

Re: Beetle (sorry, but you lot are good!)
I kept one (a larva named Glowy, imagainitively) in a large jar and fed it little snails that I found in the garden with a torch at night. It glowed every night for 3 months and then stopped... it pupated! I released it back where I found it as a pupa... so yes, they definitely glow!! PS) I'm not su...

In nature, where there's a defence, there's a counter-defence, and quite often a counter-counter-defence &c.!! I'm sure something can eat pine processionaries, even though, as you say, they are defended by irritant hairs. I believe cuckoos specialise in eating caterpillars that other birds woul...

Hi Mark... I use a similar set-up to that Pete suggests, perhaps a little more heavy duty - the Manfrotto 055BPro tripod with a 322RC head. I find this very flexible. I also add a flash gun to the mix, softened with a Stofen diffuser... this gives me a couple more f-stops of DOF and also livens up t...

Re: Beetle (sorry, but you lot are good!)
Some great photos here... I've come to associate certain beetles with certain butterflies, due to the habitat and time of year that I visit. For instance, Green tiger Beetles seem to be about and on the same habitat as Small Pearl Bordered Frits... http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x298/xopher78/In...

Nice shots FishiEE... Those male adders almost look black and white when newly moulted! I've been in Shropshire this weekend at my brother's wedding; last night I needed to escape from the family so I drove to the Wem mosses in search of adders. Pleased to say there were plenty about... more than I ...

Re: A cheap and light wildlife kit
Hi Eccles... interesting stuff. I think what you actually demonstrate though is that the tools don't need to be the most expensive available... an excellent photographer will get results using what they have available. Far more important are knowing the limitations and advantages of your equipment, ...

Hi Kev, Sandra, I went a few years ago on 1st June and there were still plenty of fresh chequers showing. Not sure about crested tits, but there are definitely Pine Marten and hence Red Squirrel (the two are linked aren't they?). With Marten, you might be best getting hold of a guide in advance and ...

Not Lepidoptera - Reptiles
Hello... Finally got out with the camera again today and went searching for reptiles... I found plenty of common lizards, no slow-worm, no adders but three grass snakes, including this inquisitive one. It ain't a perfect picture, but I like it. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x298/xopher78/Other%...

Re: New Sony A900
I think there's very little between the manufacturers; if you read reviews and comparisons online, they really do split hairs to decide why one is better than another. I think as eccles points out, it's down to handling: he finds the Canon awkward to use and the Sony more up to his purposes... when ...

Congratulations to the winners! I couldn't enter this month so I thought I'd contribute with a little critique... I hope you don't mind. It's August and so I was looking for pictures that sum up high summer. For that reason, padfield was the clear winner for me. There were so many entries that could...

Hi Marcin... I'm really very envious of your pictures! They all have such a warm light. Can I ask why this is? Do you exclusively go out in the evening/early morning? Or do you use a filter such as the 81A? Or do you alter the RAW images on the computer? I'd really like to be able to emulate what yo...

I would hope some of our Yorkshire contingent (Chris and Paul) aren’t put off by any distances involved. I doubt anybody's noticed, but I've been too busy to be involved in the forums for the last two months... however, the upshot is that I've secured myself a tidy little job that will pay for me t...

Found a couple in the garden today, basking on the walls of the house... don't think I can justify the journey ![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
