Re: Article on the Madagascan Sunset Moth

Wow, I didn't realise that, and I will do something about it. How foolish of me not to notice. It just goes to show you can't always rely on other peoples' work. I bought the image in good faith from a stock library.

Thanks though Guy.

Cheers,
Phil.

Article on the Madagascan Sunset Moth

For lovers of overseas lepidopterans here is a link to my own article on the beautiful Madagascan Sunset Moth, my favourite moth on the planet. I've linked to the original on my website rather than repost here as there are several photos within it that I have bought a licence for, also it helps keep...

Re: The Difference Between Butterflies and Moths

Thank you so much for the links Guy. I'm going to spend an extended weekend looking into the finer points of Lepidoptera taxonomy. It's a good job I'm feeling brave! Thanks again.

Cheers,
Phil.

Re: The Difference Between Butterflies and Moths

Thank you bugboy, that is both interesting and very helpful to me. I knew someone on this excellent site would be able to make sense of what I was trying to say and be willing to help out. I can see a good night's sleep coming, although there is some research to do tomorrow into the taxonomy you hav...

Re: Lepidopterology: Definition and History

It is sad Jon. The issue of the exploitation of animals for human pleasure or profit isn't going to go away anytime soon. At least individual collectors can perhaps be educated over time to take photographs instead of killing live specimens. It is difficult though as some cultures have seen collecti...

Re: The Difference Between Butterflies and Moths

I've been looking into this today to see if I could answer some of my own questions. I'm quite surprised at what I've found out - if I understand it correctly. I am currently not taking it as read until I know more. What is the difference between butterflies and moths? It appears it could all be dow...

I would be glad of any comments or error corrections to help me see if my article writing skills are any good. Thanks. Re: Lepidopterology: Definition and History

Hi David, Thanks for taking the time to read my article and for highlighting a statement that I made within it that I can now see is not accurate. On reflection, I think the sentence "'The days of butterfly collecting as a hobby are thankfully largely over" is too optimistic on my part and...

Re: millerd

What a splendid individual that red squirrel is millerd. I'm lucky enough to live just a few miles from Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset. A while back I used to go there quite often and, as long as the weather wasn't chucking it down, get to see red squirrels on most trips in one of their fe...

Lepidopterology: Definition and History

I thought I would post a short article here that I originally wrote for my website in case anybody finds it interesting. I would love any comments, critique or error corrections to help me see if I'm on the right track. I've only been writing butterfly and moth related articles for a few months but ...

Re: Never give up!

Thank you for the welcome David and for the motivation! It's strange how life goes isn't it. But I'm really happy with my endeavours now, hopefully they will take me close to where I've always wanted to be. I've posted my first 'proper' post in the links section. An interesting paper on how butterfl...

Re: Never give up!

Thank you Padfield for your well wishes. I am going to start to post interesting links that I find on the internet onto UKB forums, especially if they are relevant to British and Irish species. I'm amazed you found my little venture so quickly! Lepidopterology is quite rarely used at enthusiast leve...

Never give up!

Hi folks, I've been reading posts on this forum for a few months now and have decided to join to see if I can contribute a little. First, I thought I'd say Hi and tell you a little about myself and where I am with my own personal lepidopteran adventure. My name is Phil and I've been interested in bu...
