Re: Chequered Skipper at Fineshade Wood

To follow that post , there is a ranger guided walk at 11am every morning through the flight season. I joined it last Thursday and saw several Chequered Skippers. As Pete states , absolutely no need to stray from the paths.

Re: Grazalema, Spain - last week

Thanks Pete. I am here until 8th May. April was so wet and cold in April that I think it finished many of the spring butterflies. It feels like we are between emerging broods. Re: Grazalema, Spain - last week

Coincidentally , Pete , I had exactly the same idea but with a different target , Spanish Fritillary. I stayed in Malaga and drove 50 minutes for False Baton Blue and the Fritillary. As you say , spring here has been mixed weather and most butterflies are late emerging. False Baton were plentiful on...

Definitely Small Heath Owen. This one was in the Sierra Nevada. The Southern Spanish version is striking.

Probably my favourite morning of the year in Sussex. A frosty morning but as soon as the sun appeared, so did the Pearls.

I know what you mean Neil. But for me , not having to travel far to see species helped back to new sites is a good thing. Hutchinsons is a 40 minute drive for me and seeing Glanville’s close to home is a lovely treat
