Re: May 2020
Thanks Allan. I am beginning to think I am in the worst part of the UK for butterflies or I am unlucky or I am such an amateur I am not au fait with how and where to look.
Re: May 2020
Absolutely fantastic photos. As Jack wrote, equally interested in your general locale. A bit of jealousy with regards species and numbers is being had by self at present but I shall work on that.
Re: May 2020
Lovely photos everyone and very educational narratives too. Being a novice it is much appreciated. This forum celebrates successes and rightly so. I thought I would buck the trend and amuse folk with my last post-work impromptu outing. Temperature 14 degrees (felt warmer), wind speed 11, sun 80%, ti...

Re: David M
Fantastic photos David. I particularly like the female Common Blue. I too am impressed at the variety of butterfly species that you seem to have readily available there. How many of the UK species do you get to see most years?

Re: Guidance about exercise during lockdown.
This is my first ever season so seeing the vast majority of species will (knowingly) be my first time doing so. All rather exciting. I spent the long winter planning for 2020. There was no intention to 'do a Barkham' but I did plan to see more than those that I can see in my corner of South Derbyshi...

Re: What Blue is this?
I am in my first butterfly season as I have announced before and a total novice (but enjoying it immensely). I am doing reasonably well in terms of not seeking assistance but I will need help with this one. Probably spectacularly easy for folk ! I assumed that I was photographing a Holly Blue when I...

I don't know why but I always find photos with photobombing, like that being done by the Brassica Shield Bug, really cute and really funny.

Lovely photos David and the jealousy is still there for me. Another day and still no sightings. I am quite close to declaring them extinct in my area. ![Crying or Very sad ](./images/smilies/icon_cry.gif)

Re: essex buzzard
I have never seen one of those bee-flys before in my life ! I didn't even know they existed. My research tells me the UK has 9 species and that one looks to me like a Dark-Edged Bee-Fly or Large Bee-Fly photo that I have on my screen. This new hobby of mine and that which folk share on here by way o...

Re: ? white
My first butterfly season and I always knew I would struggle with the whites. My first one of the season today and I fell at the first hurdle. It settled very briefly in front of me but not long enough to take a photo. It was pure brilliant white with no veins and a solitary spot on either side. I a...

Re: April 2020
The bar was amateurishly raised very high in my mind Guy and it was set far too high. Having looked at what other folk were reporting on this forum and the promise of some sunshine here, I thought it would be a day for more species than the 4 seen so far in 2020 and lots of butterflies in general. A...

Furry little butterflies the Orange Tip aren't they.

I am really sorry to read of the great distress that this is bringing to you Jack. I recognise that the mental anguish is extremely hard to deal with. Hopefully within the restrictions associated with the lock down you are still managing to find some comfort from nature.

Re: Virus advice
My pre-Covid 19 plans throughout winter for what is my first ever butterfly season was to travel around the UK a bit to go and find a few species that aren't in Derbyshire. This was only to be casually done and on a whim rather than a concerted effort to see as many species as I could. Top of the li...

Re: April 2020
I am optimistic that I will have seen more than 4 species by Sunday evening then. So far I have Brimstone, Comma, Peacock and Tortoiseshell.
