Re: Bugboys mission

Great narrative and photos Bugboy. You evidently have a lot of patience, which was apparent at many stages in your narrative.

Re: Cumbria butterflies query

Irton Fell is the easiest site to get to for the Mountain Ringlet, under 400M above sea level, it's just a short walk up a gentle slope from the car park. If the weathers with you, you can park your car, take your pics and be back at your car in under an hour... if you wanted to that is! Thank you ...

Re: Spain - 21 April to 3 May 2022

I am enjoying the thread David and seeing for the first time relatives of the butterflies that I know here. My favourite so far has been the Common Tiger Blue. What a lovely looking butterfly. The initial first few days with the weather must have been extremely frustrating. Brisk winds, quite cool a...

Re: Maximus

I find the Map butterfly extremely interesting to look at, having only first known of its existence a fortnight ago. I had not seen the ventral side until just now. I am thinking that the colour and the pattern reminds me of something but I can't quite get to what it is.

Re: Neil Hulme

Excellent conservation work Neil and wonderful photos. I fell of my chair when I read the count of 310. That is an amazing count and a reward for all of the hard work undertaken to get the habitat right.

Re: Pauline

You say the nicest things Otep :D I reckon butterfly wings would make a great subject for Pointillism. Yes, I was thinking that Pauline, sort of. I was mesmerised by how the ventral wings did seem to be millions of minute dots. I will be honest, I was unfamiliar with the word Pointillism but my Goo...

Re: May 2022

Rubbish butterfly day for me. Quite a lot of sunshine and only 15 butterflies - mostly flighty whites. There were also half a dozen fresh steaming piles of dog excrement. I stormed off home to get my chalk paint spray to mark them.

Re: Pauline

I must confess to being absolutely mesmerised by the close up of the Wood White wing. I was staring at it for quite some considerable time, looking at the incredible fine detail. Thank you for sharing that Pauline.

Re: Cumbria butterflies query

That is an excellent question and answer that I am the beneficiary of. Thank you to you all. I am just starting my 3rd season and I am on 42 species seen. Those 3 are on my wish list. I must confess that I am a little scared of the Mountain Ringlet. Not the butterfly itself, but its altitude. That a...

Re: April 2022

Nice find with the mating pair Otep - I've only seen that once before. Certainly keeping me interested with your posts :D Good for you, Otep. :) That mating pair must have been great to see. Thank you Pauline and David. My introduction to PBF was in 2021 (my second season). I went to Ewyas Harold n...

Re: May 2022

Lovely photos on the May page folks. Nice pristine Small Heath, Brown Argus, Common Blue and Marsh Fritillary to name just a few. Great Grizzled Skipper photos. The Marsh Fritillary on the hand photo looks like a little piece of jewellery Stevie. Looking at the photos is like a trailer for a film - ...

Pearls at the Wyre Forest, Bewdley, Worcestershire on 30 April 2022. Re: April 2022

Otep, its a bit late in the year to see Adders now, because most have shed/sloughed their hibernation skin, an either mated, or dispersed to hunt for prey. The best time to sight an Adder is late Feb, through March/April. The vegetation is low through those months, the snakes are generally more coo...

Re: April 2022

Awesome photos Paul. I am very  about the adders. I really, really want to see a snake in the wild. One would think that I would stumble across one given my many butterfly adventures - but it has never happened.
