Re: October 2023

I was out trimming the hedge and cutting the grass, hopefully last cut now before spring next year!!

Had to wear my fleece as temperatures here in Aberdeen alot cooler now.

Still managed to spot a couple of red admirals on the go.

Re: Long-tailed Blue ALERT

I have never seen the UK brood of LTB......but I was lucky enough to see what I assume are LTB on a business trip into Baku, Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 in October 2018.

Photos attached.

Re: Panasonic Lumix FZ330

Nick Although I now use a mirrorless camera and macro lens I still have my old panasonic fz200 which took some great photos. I tuned into a few tutorial videos by Graham Houghton on YouTube which initially helped me set up my camera for butterfly photos. I set it up with iso200 and only toggled betw...

David M wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:31 am Love that first image especially, Bertl. Are Commas relatively recent arrivals up there?
Thanks David.

It's the first year I have seen them at this location. Haven’t seen them in great numbers.....only 3 to 4 on the wing on both visits.

Re: September 2023

Visited logie steading near Forres again this morning for breakfast and had a wander around the walled gardens.

A few red admirals and peacock butterfly still around but I was also very happy to see 3 comma butterflies that stayed still long enough for a photo 📸.

Cheers

Re: September 2023

Still lots of red admirals, around 30 and peacocks circa 15 busy demolishing all the buddleia in my garden. Nothing better than sitting with a cuppa in the garden and watching these fantastic creatures gliding past.

Re: August 2023

Hi David

This is first time I have seen them near Forres. I counted 4 yesterday at Logie Steading.

The furthest north I had previously seen them was at Drum castle Gardens on deeside......photo attached.

Re: August 2023

Stopped at a couple of places on my way home from Forres to Aberdeen today. Managed a couple of quick photos of a very lively comma at Logie Steading......which stayed out of my reach yesterday. Also stopped at Grantown on Spey and seen lots of scotch argus on the wing.....unfortunately most of them...

Re: August 2023

Had some lunch at logie steading near Forres today and took a wee visit to the gardens as the sun appeared.

Seen around 6 red admirals, 12 peacock, 10 small white, 2 tortoiseshell and 2 comma butterfly.

Could not get any photos of tortoiseshell or comma........stayed high on buddleia.

Has Menorca had a relly early butterfly season?

I am just back from a weeks holiday in Menorca. I was very disappointed with the lack of butterflies. To be fair I only spent a couple of mornings looking but the few i seen were well past their sell by date apart from a couple. There was a lack of flowers even in alot of the house gardens........wa...
