Visited a Grantown on spey site on 17th August 2023 and found alot of scotch argus on the wing. They appear early on this site so most of them were not in pristine condition.
These were the best.

Visited my usual haunt at Cambus o May on Deeside on 2 days on 22nd and 24th May to look for this wonderful creature. They were very active on both days and it took a while to get some decent photos
, but well worth the effort.

I visited my usual site near Grantown on Spey in mid June, which was recommended to me by Jack Harrison a few years back.
I wasn't disappointed.

Re: Marsh Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2023
I visited Glasdrum nnr at the end of May to seek out the chequered skipper. I had been recommended a marsh fritillary site at Port Appin near Glasdrum so I took a drive to port appin near lunch time. Initially I didn't see anything but as I ventured further into the field I was rewarded with around ...

Didn't see too many GVW this year. I was visiting a recommended Green Hairstreak site near Grantown early May without any luck but managed to see around a half a dozen GVW moving from flower to flower in an open field.

Re: Green Hairstreak - Favourite Photo of 2023
I had visited Keiloch Crag near Braemar in 2022 and seen quite a few Green Hairstreak and this species was a first for me that year. So I thought I would revisit on a sunny day on May 9th 2023. After walking for a few hours admiring the beautiful scenery but not a Green Hairstreak in sight I was ple...

Re: Dark Green Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2023
I visited St Cyrus NNR early July and as usual there were a few DGF on the wing. They were very active and tough to photograph as they moved from thistle to thistle. Also managed to see a couple late July while walking near the River Dee at Aboyne. I had to wait and watch for about 30 minutes before...

I visited my favourite site at Fallin Bing near Stirling for this glorious little butterfly in early June. The old bing is covered in a huge variety of wild flowers and is a fantastic place to go walking. Burnet moths, meadow browns, ringlet, small copper, peacock, red admiral, tortoiseshell, small ...

Re: Dingy Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2023
This little beauty of a butterfly was a first for me this season. I visited Logie Quarry near Tain where the Highland Butterfly Conservation group have done a terrific job with their species on the edge project which has produced a thriving population of dingy skipper and small blue butterflies. Che...

Thanks David.
I have visited Glasdrum NNR a few times now and always had a great day photographing these gorgeous butterflies.
I have pretty much covered all the Scottish butterflies now but looking forward to expanding my travels down south to see a few more species next year.

Re: Comma - Favourite Photo of 2022
Thanks David. They were very active while the sun was out and the buddleia was just too high for me to photograph them. I was close to leaving the walled garden when the sun hid behind a couple of clouds and they decided to leave the buddleia. They were very accommodating once that happened.......an...

Re: Comma - Favourite Photo of 2022
I didn't see my first comma in 2023 until September. I was visiting Logie Steading near Forres and decided to take a stroll through the walled gardens. To my surprise I spotted 3 to 4 commas feeding high on some buddleia. I was lucky enough that they descended from up on high and landed in a more ac...
