Re: August 2024
Nice to see those Small Torts, Thanks David. Unfortunately I haven't seen any in my Aberdeen garden yet. Last year at this time there were well over 30 butterflies in my garden on a daily basis with a mixture of red admiral, peacock and small tortoiseshell. This year only around a dozen max have ap...

First red admiral butterfly appeared in my Aberdeen garden today.
Half a dozen seen......not nectaring on the buddleia but preferring to bask on the stones or garden wall.
Cheers

Lovely images of Scotch Argus, Berti. Don’t see many of those on the forums...

Thanks Essexbuzzard........the Scottish weather has very much limited my butterfly days out this year, so it was great to see them on the day.

Re: July 2024
Visited a favourite Grantown on Spey site today. Overcast but warm. Half a dozen scotch argus on the wing.
Re: July 2024
I haven't been out looking for butterflies for 2 weeks due to the crap weather up here in NE Scotland.......so was glad to get out this morning for a couple of hours before the wind got up and the clouds rolled in. My first Grayling of the season seen at St Cyrus NNR.....half a dozen on the wing. Ch...
Re: July 2024
No Northern Brown Argus seen on Monday at Grantown-on-Spey but maybe just too early. Several fritillaries charging around at vast speed, presumably Dark Green although they did look smallish so can't entirely rule out late Small Pearl Bordereds. It can be seen from the picture of the habitat that ...
Re: June 2024
Took a wee jaunt to St. Cyrus nnr this morning. Lots of common blue, ringlet, meadow brown and small heath on the wing despite windy conditions. Did spot an NBA jousting with a common blue butterfly.....but it disappeared up the hill after the joust.....so no photo opportunity. Seen around a dozen D...
Re: June 2024
First meadow browns and ringlets today at my local patch in Aberdeen. Seen in equal numbers....around 20 of each. Grass at the local meadow really overgrown.....flowers struggling to keep up. Windy conditions meant photos were difficult. Might go back mañana as low wind speed forecast. Best photos a...
