Searching for Tenerife’s endemics April 17–April 21
Firstly, a huge thanks to Paul Selby and David Moore for kindly advising me on some of the better locations to visit. Unlike David, I don’t have near full autonomy on my trips abroad as I have a very patient wife waiting back at the hotel. For this holiday my trips out where generally timed from 9am...

Canary Skipper - Thymelicus christi One that caught my eye was parque de las mesas, north east of the capital Santa Cruz. I arrived there at 10am the following day but found the park to be largely shady with no access to the summit of the hill due to there being a large fence around the communicati...

Re: Tenerife - 7th to 12th March 2023
Presume you are familiar with the north of Tenerife? Indeed David, having birded the island for it's endemics. Mirador de Lagrimona (where you parked for the Large White I am assuming?) and Barranco de Ruiz are two of the hot spots for both the endemic pigeons. Hope you made it to Las Lajas for the...

Re: Tenerife - 7th to 12th March 2023
Your report is excellent timing for me David as I am heading to Tenerife for a week on Sunday 16th April in search of the endemics.
Looking forward to what you see and where.
Prepare yourself for e-mails asking for detailed info
Kind regards
Steve

I didn't make the effort to see this species in the UK as I knew I'd catch up with them in Kefalonia, and indeed I did, they were everywhere. I had ample opportunity to photograph them and below are the ones I was the most happy with. Wood W 21 May.JPG WW 20 May.JPG Ww 21 May (2).JPG WW 21 May.JPG

Re: White-letter Hairstreak - Favourite Photo of 2022
The first photo is a bit special as it was taken on my first ever visit to Alners Gorse where I saw three Hairstreak species during the day.
The second photo because it was taken just 3 minutes from where I live. Sandridge Common, Melksham, Wiltshire

Re: February 2023
Thurs 19th - Whilst at Worcester Woods for an EBG meeting, there were good numbers of redwings foraging in the trees. Not a bird I ever see in south Wales: A perfect reason for leaving the ivy in ones garden to produce berries David. A great late winter source of food. Both photos taken in my garde...

Good numbers, as always, at a site just five minutes from where I live. My favourite photos from 2022 are of a Valezina that I encountered on three separate occasions. Sandridge Common, Melksham, Wiltshire.

Re: Purple Emperor - Favourite Photo of 2022
I missed the window of opportunity for this species last year (2021) so decided to make the effort and make the short trip to Savernake Forest, Marlborough, in July.
I'm glad I did as a very showy male performed admirably as soon as I arrived at the renowned Ailesbury Column.
