Hi Denise
I would suggest a trip to clanger/picket wood for white admiral and silver washed.I have some excellent days there in the last few years.Perhaps we could arrange a trip there later in the year?

Hi all
West yatton this morning: green hairstreak x4,adonis blue x1,common blue/brown argus/dingy skipper too many to count,small heath x3,male and female brimstone.hazelbury common :dingy skipper 12+,marsh frit 30+.

May just seems to get better by the day.I was at Monkwood(worc)this morning and saw 4 Wood White and actually managed to photograph one for the first time.Also yesterday at Bentley wood several PB and SPB frits although the weather wasn't great and it was a bit windy.

sounds like things are on the go in our area at last.Hugo(Brook)is on the council at BC well worth talking to as he knows Yatton like the back of his hand.So far nothing unusual for me but I did have 2 holly blues in the garden this week.

hi
there are chalkhill blues in good numbers now at hazelbury common.also saw 3 silver washed frits there in the hedges at the bottom of the field.

i had a quick visit to Clanger Wood this saturday and it was good to see Silver washed and White Admiral on the wing. Then a visit to Hazelbury where there were Adonis Blue,plenty of Marbled Whites but more special were a single Clouded Yellow and several Dark Green frits. All the Best Mark ps sorry...

I went to the mineries today, we saw about 30 SPBF along the path which leads to the smaller pools. There are now southern marsh orchids in flower and we photographed forrester moth and also chimney sweeper.i saw my first cuckoo of the year !

well done simon on the Adonis , I was at hazelbury yesterday but didn't see one although there were lots of marsh frits,dingy skippers and common blue.Photography was difficult because of the wind but I did manage some half decent shots of the skippers.Iwill try again this weekend weather permitting...

That looks like a green winged orchid to me although i'm not an expert on these things.Hazelbury is a great site for these and usually produces the relatively rare 'white' form
anyway enough about orchids

Hazelbury common is my first choice , its a small area but holds a huge number of butterflies,moths and orchids.If anyones interested the green winged orchids are in full flower there now.

wood white again

Hi I am still looking for a good site to phootgraph wood whites. I don't mind travelling a reasonable distance if I think there is a good chance of getting some shots.One place that has been mentioned is Monks Wood near worcester, does anyone know this place ?
