Re: Lincs garden May 24

Thanks, Dave,

I'm no expert but the white didn't seem to be as large as what I always call the Cabbage White (is that the same as a Large White).

Lincs garden May 24

I found these two in the garden yesterday and I think I found the right pages in the Collins guide for identifying them, but I'd be grateful for confirmation or correction please.
Thanks,
David

Grayling perhaps

But which? This little chap was savaging my wife's shoe in the French Pyrenees this September at an altitude of just over 2000m.
I think I'm in the right area of the Collins guide to say that it's a grayling but after that I need your help please.
Best wishes,
David

Ringlet perhaps

I have a feeling this is a going to be a common butterfly but I stumbled though the Collins guide without any real success. My best gues is one of the ringlets but I really don't know - so please help if you can. Photographed July 23 Notts, UK.
Thanks.

Thanks to you both, I expect I'll be back with more questions when we go again the the autumn. At least I got it down to the ringlet level... ;o)

More from the Pyrenees

Hello again with a plea for help with identification. These shots were taken in June this year at about 1500ft. Sticking my neck out here, but am I safe with Clouded Yellow for the first one? The second and third are of the same individual and the fourth appears, to me, to be the same (?) but more c...

"Good to have this discussion on UK Butterflies. Thanks, Pete, it wouldn’t be possible without your brilliant web site."
Seconded, as a bird watcher first, but all round naturalist as well, I come here frequently for friendly help which is truly appreciated.
Thanks again,
David

Re: Pyrenees May/June 22

I'm sorry, I've been out today, and I take my hat off to you all - this seems to be as hard as identifying some warblers when they won't sing... For Bugboy, the two shots were within a couple of minutes, the solo in pic 5 was 15:54:12 and the one with the blues was at 15:56:48. This image hasn't cha...

Re: Pyrenees May/June 22

Thank you gentlemen, that was far beyond my boundaries but may I ask another question? The butterflies were all on very shallow water which had drained down the hillside and I am curious as to why they found this particular patch so attractive. Are they simply drinking or could there be minerals and...

Pyrenees May/June 22

Hello again, Another wonderful holiday in the French side of the mountains brought some shots of butterflies and I turn to you for help. I have the Collins guide but still have ID questions. 1.jpg I'm fairly confident that these are Adonis Blue (waits to be shot down in flames!). 3.jpg More Adonis B...

Re: A long shot perhaps

Thanks, Maurice, I've looked on line and that's pretty much it.
Mystery solved but what an unusual wing structure - or is it more common than I know?

A long shot perhaps

Hi all, I've always had such great help on this forum I thought I'd start here asking for help identifying an insect which isn't a butterfly. I'm sure there will be a wider expertise and if not then a clue as to where to go would be appreciated. This little creature has almost ceratinly come in on l...
