Hi I also have the 300D and I saved up and got the 100mm USM Canon Macro. Very nice lens, I can fill the frame with a butterfly from over a foot away. (retails at close to £400, I got mine on Ebay for £319 new) For more depth of field you can get the 60mm EF-S Macro, designed for our camera it gives...

A few shots taken at Arnside (6)

Went to Arnside Knott for a couple of days last weekend, finally sorted out my photos, so here is a few. The Buddleia was just outside the Knott and was attracting the Fritillaries nicely :D Finally got a shot of a Red Admiral (there isn't many where I live): http://www.wayno.myby.co.uk/album/Butter...

Hmm a tricky question, and one that my friend pondered over for a while before making his decision. Three Choices: 1. A top end compact 2. A bridge SLR type camera 3. An SLR As for the compact, some of the Canon Powershots produce fantastic results, and some of them have "Apeture Priority"...

She's a she in my opinion, the male's body is all blue fur, whereas hers has a lot of brown fur. The bits of the inside wing that you can see look brown. The Orange spots are rather large, another sign of female. The Females are usually smaller in the Common Blues, quite noticably smaller in my expe...

Yeh :-( They fly mainly in June, I spotted a couple at Bishop Middleham Quarry at the end of june but they were rather worn. Here's a pic, next year I'll go back earlier and on a brighter day! : ...

Someone gave me advice to get them to open their wings, shade them from the sun, they either fly away or open their wings after a few moments. However this seems to do the opposite with the blues, I discovered firing my flash a few times convinced one to open its wings up this weekend. (weather was ...

Ahh yes you are correct!

They were both really tiny, but then the female Common Blues are small.
The male must have came from an under-fed caterpillar :-)

Shame that is was really windy and overcast, they were really nice specimens.

Wow I did not realise that a macro flash would allow you to stop down the aperture that much.

I shall have to invest in a macro flash unit I think :-)

Oh and brilliant photos, perhaps a little bit underexposed, but no doubt its intended ;-)
