Wurzel - I have been remiss. I have not looked at your diary for awhile. Going back through your pages was like reliving Summer, thank you.
How on earth did you get a shot of a Purple Emperor with is hind-wings purple but its forewings black?!? Absolutely amazing.

David - I've been going back through your diary entries and discovered I missed the 2nd brood female Holly blue pic you took with the wide black edge but somehow beautifully faded overall. Lovely.

I hadn't looked at your diary for awhile. Sorry. I am glad I did today. Highlights for me was that almost black Adonis female with a speckling of blue scales and the Holly Blue with a huge pile of dung all to itself.

I've just been going back through your Brostreak pics. Its amazing how different such pictures can look on a cloudy day and yet you have still managed to keep them sharp. I love it.

Re: Butterflysaurus rex
Fantastic highlights. the Grizzled Skip pics are wonderful, both the mated pair and the trio shot. I have not got a pic of a mated pair so I am quite envious but strangely it was not that but the pic of the three together that really took my fancy.

Neil - the Coppers are on a dramatic increase around here too and I have found just like you that the Small Heath are too numerous to count.

Re: Hoggers
Hi, Hoggers. Great pics yet again. I think the Small Copper must be my favourite UK butterfly. My book gives the flight times of each brood and has a gap between the third week of August and the second week of September. Around here this has until now been approximately correct but not so this year....

Let me add my congrats on the Chalkhill shots. I thought at first you had a mated pair until I realised they were not connected and only then realised they were the same sex! Then the second shot showing one of them to have a faded-out appearance. Fantastic.

Broxhead - 31st August 2018 Lovely. The Small Copper community here is growing nicely. The hot spell does not seem to have affected them too much. I counted 22 here today. Only two days ago I counted 11. Double the number over just two days. In 2017 there was only 2 along this transect around this t...

David - Yes - The Adonis population at this reserve has been wonderful so far this year. I am now waiting to bump into someone who will tell me another Adonis location on this reserve that I don't know about! :D Wurzel - Hope you had a great holiday. I'm confused too and I have stayed here! But then...

I just had a pleasant surprise. I said my total Adonis Blue count this year at Old Winch Hill is 57 but I forgot the spring brooders. The total this year for me is therefore actually 63!

Old Winchester Hill - 30th August 2018 The last time I came here I met someone who suggested there was a good Adonis Blue location the other side of the hillfort. I was in two-minds whether to look but this morning was sunny so I gave it a try. WOW. How could I have missed this? I have been visiting...

Thanks, Guys. I'm really happy that the Coppers are coming along now around here. I was fearing the worst until now.
